Jun 30, 2021 路 The hardness of AUS 8 is highly dependent on the heat treatment technique. It is capable of achieving 60HRC with good heat treatment. Benchmade knife company has proven consistently that their heat-treated AUS 8 steel blades can achieve 59- 60 HRC. This makes their AUS-8 stainless steel knives a very suitable budget offering. Feb 26, 2021 路 The 14c28n has decent edge retention and good rust resistance properties. The steel is strong enough to withstand some abuse. Feb 12, 2020 路 Talisman is made with Japanese stainless steel AUS-8, as its comprehensive characters are good, and it is very stable. But we also sometimes get advice from some customers that suggests us changing the stainless steel, for example, changing to D2. Later we tried to use D2 and 14C28N of Sandvik, both of them are good, exspecilly the 14C28N of Sandvik

It has pretty good wear resistant and makes for a good outdoor knife. VG-10 is similar but you get more toughness out of N690. Overall it's a middle of the pack steel made in Europe by Bohler. Personally I like 14C28N because it's easy to sharpen, so I guess it depends on your use.

May 13, 2022 路 The hardness of X50CrMoV15 steel ranges between 50-60 HRC with an average of 56 HRC. This means that it is somewhere in the middle of the scale compared to all knives and their hardness. This makes X50CrMoV15 an all-round type of steel that is good for cutting lots of different foods but it may not be ideal for cutting bones or rough meats.
